![]() The University of Texas Women's Ultimate program was founded in Fall 2000 by a small but dedicated group of women. We first qualified for Nationals in 2002 and have qualified every year since, with the exception of 2007, when we finished 2nd in the South Region. Over the years, we have established a reputation for our competitive and spirited play and we value every opportunity we get to play this sport with and against our friends from around the country. We are looking forward to hosting our sixth annual College Centex at the beautiful UT Intramural Fields, just minutes from downtown Austin, various live music venues, and lots of good bbq. Our tournament hosting resume includes College Centex, Club Centex, Elite Eights, Texas Throwdown, Club Sectionals and Regionals, and College Sectionals, Regionals, and Nationals. We pride ourselves in hosting some of the best tournaments around as we see this as an opportunity to give back to the ultimate community. Over the past few few years, we have also taken a special interest in encouraging the growth of college women's ultimate, particularly in the South Region. By organizing collaborative efforts between college captains and leaders in the South, hosting tournaments in far-away states, and establishing friendships with some of our long-time rivals, we hope to bring ultimate in the South to a whole new level. The organization serves as a unifying resource for the support and development of ultimate in our city, runs numerous tournaments and leagues throughout the year, supports local teams through technical and financial assistance, and builds the sport through skills clinics and volunteer coaching, among many other important tasks. Please visit the UPLA website here. Key Organizers Laura Markham is the University of Texas Women's Ultimate Club President. She served as the captain of the Texas B team as well as Vice President of the program last year. She brings experience from helping to run the Texas Women's Fall Tournament and Centex last season. She serves as the liaison between Texas Women's Ultimate and UPLA, and has been involved in helping run several leagues in Austin. If she could choose three words to describe herself, they would be "seck", "epic," and "baller." We agree. Stephanie Redfern is one of Texas Melee's captains this season. She has been a member of the Texas Ultimate program since Fall 2005 and previously served as Fundraising Coordinator. Last season, she played an instrumental role in helping Melee return to Nationals as our most dominant cutter, and she can also be found playing in pickup and leagues across Austin. She was involved in helping run Texas Throwdown last season. Katie Blyth is the other Texas Melee captain this season. She has been a member of the Texas Ultimate program since Fall 2006 and served as a leader-in-training last year. She was involved with running the Texas Women's Fall Tournament, Elite Eights, Texas Throwdown, as well as Centex. As a native Austinite, she has played in many of the local leagues around town. Last season, she was the team's top defender, drawing the most difficult defensive matchups. Tina Woodings is a Texas Melee alum and current president of UPLA. She captained Melee in 2005 and 2006 and was the team's Callahan nominee in 2006. She currently co-captains the local club team Texas Showdown and is a huge advocate of the growth of women's ultimate in Austin and beyond. Tina was a key leader in the development of Centex and the Texas Women's Ultimate program. Michelle Ng is a Texas Melee alum. She previously played for UC Berkeley from 2004-2006, captaining the team in 2006 and finishing top 3 in the nation's 2006 Callahan voting. She moved to Austin for grad school, where she played for Melee for two seasons, captaining the team in 2008 and earning South All-Region honors. Michelle also started the Bay Area women's club team Slackjaw in 2007 and has captained the team for the past two seasons. She was instrumental in running the Texas Women's Fall Tournament, Elite Eights, Texas Throwdown, and Centex last season. She will also be assisting with Pres Day and Midwest Throwdown this year. |
